Item Shop

You can upgrade the item shop so it sells more items. You do so by spending bells at the item shop. Only items that can be sold out count toward your total. In other words, stationery, wrapping paper, and melody cards don't count toward the bell total. Fortune cookies are counted as 500 bells.
  • Upgrade to convenience store: You must have a house rather than a tent. Occurs 12,000 bells have been spent in the shop (all players on the game card can contribute) or buy at least 15 items. Must be at least 10 days since you started the game.
  • Upgrade to supermarket: Occurs after you have spent 25,000 bells in the shop. You also have to build a public work, such as a bridge or fountain, which you can do from your mayor's chair once you have earned 100 points. It must be at least 10 days since you built the public work.
  • Upgrade to home center: Occurs after you have spent 50,000 bells in the shop. Must be at least 21 days since you built the supermarket.
  • Upgrade to department store: Occurs after you have spent 100,000 bells in the shop. Must be at least 30 days since you built the home center. You also have to pass Gracie's fashion check at least four times.

Garden Center

To unlock the garden center, the total number of times you have done any of the following actions must be at least 30: pulled weeds, watered flowers, planted trees or flowers. To get a watering can, talk to Shizue at her front desk in the town hall and ask for advice. Give her the items she talks about. Keep doing this until she gives you a watering can. You can also get a fishing rod and bug net this way.

Tanuki Housing

Tanuki Housing is open from the beginning. Once you pay off your down payment and get a house instead of a tent, Tanuki Housing will start selling exteriors, such as new roofs, mailboxes, and so on.

Happy Home Academy

Once you pay off your down payment and get a house instead of a tent, Happy Home Academy will open in the Tanuki Housing office.

Happy Home Exhibition Hall

Once you pay off your down payment and get a house instead of a tent, talk to Tom Nook. You might need to ask Tom Nook to expand your house, and you might need to talk to him again to get him to explain that you have to use the ATM in the post office to pay your loan. After that, Shizue's little brother Kento will be in the north part of town. Talk to him to visit the model homes.

Museum Shop

If you have spoken with Blathers on at least 14 days, and you have donated at least 20 items, with at least one from each category (bugs, fish/deep sea fish, fossils, works of art), the Museum Shop will open on the second floor.

QR Codes

In the Able Sisters' shop, you can unlock a QR code machine that creates a QR code that represents a custom design. Other players can then scan this code to get your custom designs into their games. To unlock this, talk to Sable, who is working at the sewing machine. You have to talk to her each day for several days in a row. Then the QR code machine will be unlocked.

Club 444

For Club 444 to open, your shop has to be upgraded to the convenience store, and you have to have reached 100 points according to Shizue (sit in your mayor chair to find out) and paid her to be able to create public works and change town rules. Then the next time you play, Dr. Shrunk will be outside of your house and will ask you to get signatures for his petition. Agree to do so, then talk to six of your villagers and ask them to sign the petition. Once you have six signatures, go talk to Dr. Shrunk in the north part of town to give him the petition. The next day, Club 444 will open.

Shoe Shunk

Spend at least 8000 bells in the Able Sisters' shop to unlock Shoe Shunk.

Shampoodle

Spend at least 10,000 bells in Able Sisters' or Shoe Shunk. It must be at least 10 days since Shoe Shunk was built.

Badges are a brand new feature introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In previous games, the only time you ever got prizes and rewards for doing things around town were when you won first place in the fishing and bug-catching contests run by Chip and Nat. But now, not only do you get something in return for fishing and bug-catching, but you also get badges for donating to the museum, popping ballons with your slingshot, getting medals on the island, planting flowers and trees, pulling weeds, shopping, and overall playing the game for at least 50 hours (which shouldn't be a problem with all of the new features in AC:NL).
For every badge, there are 3 levels: BronzeSilver, and Gold. When you recieve a badge, you will always get the bronze one first. Then, you will get the silver, and then of course the gold. So this basically means that the number of badges in the game tripples!

snowmen

Snowbaby: To make the snowbaby you have to push two very small snowballs together (if they’re too large you’ll create the snowmama!). The snowbaby will only give you a gift when you have made the other 3 snow-people, perfectly. He will reward you with one of two items,

Snowman: The snowman is pretty much the same as in the previous series - you roll two snowballs together, and make a snowman. However he has to be perfect in order to reward you. If you make him perfectly, he will complement you and send you a letter the next day with an item from the Snowman Series. If you make him incorrectly you’ll simply get nothing.

Snowmama: The snowmama will ask you to give her snowflakes. If you make her perfectly, she will only ask for 3 snowflakes, if you make her imprefectly she will instead ask for 5. Snowflakes will randomly fall from the sky during the winter months, which can be caught with your net. When you give the snowmama snowflakes she will reward you with a piece of the Ice Series

Snowpapa: he snowpapa will ask to play bingo with you. He will give you a bingo card, and each day when you talk to him, he will roll his eyes and they will land on a number. If you have the number on your card you can check it off your card. If you don’t, it’s too bad. You can make multiple snowpapa’s, or visit other peoples towns and talk to their snowpapa’s to get more than one number per day. When you get bingo (5 in a row) he will reward you with a piece of the Ski Series
